چکیده

The distribution of the squared momentum difference |PA| − |PB |2 between the momenta in the laboratory system of two experimentally observed particles A and B provides a test for whether an observed mass peak indicates a real resonance rather than nonresonant background or kinematic reflection. The angular distribution of the relative momenta in the center-of-mass system exhibits a forward-backward symmetry in the production and decay of any resonance with a definite parity. This symmetry is not expected in other nonresonant processes and can be expressed without needing angular distributions in terms of the easily measured momenta in the laboratory frame that are already measured and used to calculate the invariant mass of the system. Our test is especially useful for low statistics experiments where the full angular distribution cannot be determined. It can be applied to both fixed-target and collider searches for the Θ and Θc pentaquarks. e-mail: [email protected] e-mail: [email protected]

Experimental Search for Pentaquarks

The experimental evidence for pentaquarks, both old and new, is discussed. Constraints due toKN scattering data from previous decades is first reviewed, followed by experiments with positive evidence and those with null results. Finally, the problem of the narrow width of the Θ pentaquark is discussed, along with theoretical implications.

Pentaquarks in high-energy colliding experiments: perspectives from HERA

Several issues related to pentaquark searches relevant for current and future high-energy colliding experiments are discussed. We make an attempt to explain why pentaquark candidates are not seen by some experiments, and what makes the HERA experiments so special in such searches.

Reconstitution of Sand Specimens Using a Rainer System

Air pluviation is a method of preparing laboratory models to carry out many geotechnical experiments. In this study, a new air pluviation device has been developed by the researchers. For laboratory modeling, it is important to calibrate the device using air pluviation to produce accurate specimens with desirable conditions and relative densities. A series of laboratory tests were conducted to ...

Pentaquarks in a Breathing Mode Approach to Chiral Solitons∗

Although chiral soliton model predictions for the mass of the lightest exotic pentaquark, the Θ with zero isospin and unit strangeness, have been around for some time, the study of pentaquarks as baryon resonances became popular only recently when experiments indicated their existence. These experiments were stimulated by a chiral soliton model estimate suggesting that such exotic baryons might...

The Rise and Fall of Pentaquarks in Experiments

Experimental evidence for and against the existence of pentaquarks has accumulated rapidly in the last three years. If they exist, they would be dramatic examples of hadronic states beyond our well-tested and successful particle models. The positive evidence suggests existence of baryonic objects with widths of at most a few MeV, some displaying exotic quantum numbers, such as baryons with stra...
